Hurricane Floyd

Soul & Motown Vocal Entertainer/Actor/Voiceover Artiste and Presenter

On arrival in the UK in 1999, my solo act was based around rap/hip-hop music, before I joined Ray Lewis and the New Drifters.  From 2002 I have performed as a self-contained Soul/Motown vocal entertainer at various venues throughout the UK.  My solo performance includes songs by Stevie Wonder, Barry White, The Drifters, Lou Rawls, Kool & The Gang and Earth, Wind & Fire, amongst others.   As a solo entertainer, I have enjoyed working on a semi-regular basis in such venues as Vogue Nightclub in Sheffield (attendance 3000), The Underground in Leeds (invited back for 19 weeks), Leisure Lounge in London, Elbow Room in Leeds.  During this time I have also worked an American Four Tops tribute group, Soul Satisfaction, as a backing singer.  Since 2008 I have also been represented by Unit One Management, who are based in Manchester.  Through Unit One I have performed in several venues, including the Waterside/Galleon chain of hotels.  Further details are given in the Relevant Experience section below.

My acting experience in the UK includes walk on, background and bit parts in Television and Film productions.  Television work includes “Where The Heart Is…” for ITV and commercials for clients, such as Morrisons.  The agency that has secured most of my acting/extra work was Acting Up North, Huddersfield, UK, where my contact was Lea Bennette.  In 2008 I took part in the filming of a music video for a new group, The New Antics.  Prior to travelling to the UK, I studied drama at Long Branch High School for three years, under the direction of Mr Vincent Borelli.

Voiceover experience includes composing and recording radio advertisements for local stations and merchants.  (Love 100, Peoples FM, The Coating Company (Sheepscar).  This work was secured through Leslie Coleman of Caleche Studios in Leeds.

Presenting experience includes several charity events, including Leeds School of Contemporary Dance (Ian Eddy Sickle Cell Trust Fund) and St George’s Crypt (Big Issue’s Youth At Risk).  In 2008 I presented the Urban Variety Show at North Pier Blackpool and also the Poletastic World Pole Fitness Championships in the Printworks, Manchester.

Victor Washington – Producer/Songwriter

Given tuition on studio familiarity at a professional level in the area of performing harmonies, tracking, melodies and “riffs” and was given great encouragement in song writing.  I was signed to Youngstar in 1986 and presented the single “I’m not afraid of the dark”, for the soundtrack to Ghostbusters II.  I was the featured artiste.

1985 to 1986

Bob Farley – Manager/Agent, Newark, New Jersey

Bob Farley made contacts, mentored my stage performance and booked many amateur showcases for me, such as: Blue Monday Specials; Peppermint Lounge (broadcast on Cable); Monmouth County Regional Amateur Competition, New Jersey; Ishka-bibals; several amateur contests and working men’s clubs.

HISTORY (USA)

Formerly known as KING JONESY COOL in the United States, I performed as an amateur for five years as a “Rapper”.  I studied Choral singing for three years at Long Branch High School under the direction of Ms Stacey Miller.  After playing amateur venues such as Ishka-bibals – West End, The Peppermint Lounge – Newark, Latin Quarter – New York and Funhouse – New York, I was asked to record a professional song in a “real” studio.

Shortly after recording “I’m not afraid of the dark” for Youngstar Productions, I signed a recording contract with them.  I began to write my own songs and was soon asked to write for others.  I performed at many small clubs promoting my new single “Just Rapping”.

After several months of disappointing negotiations with larger companies, Youngstar Productions ceased to exist, and so did my contract.
