Melodie - also with StreetHeart and Somers & Steel!

Melodie Somers

Although Melodie comes to the act with 20 years of experience as an actress in Professional Theatre On and Off Broadway, she started singing and dancing long before then in the Midwest. Along with her booming voice, she seemed to have a natural ability to hear and sing harmony which she practiced in church at a very young age. The dancing started soon after she could walk and only took a slight detour when she got too tall to be on pointe.  Lured to the Big Apple by the call of West Side Story on film and Man of La Mancha in the theatre, she headed out on a bus from Nebraska with $65 in her pocket.

She sang in Greenwich Village showcases, cafes and at parties and gatherings for years as she pursued her career in acting, where she eventually worked with many living playwrights such as Christopher Durang, David Mamet, Romulus Linney, Frank Gilroy, Shirley Lauro, Arthur Giron, Hal Corley and even the late Tennessee Williams. A founding member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, she directed, as well as wrote, a few plays herself and coached professional actors in NYC for many years. When her daughter was born, she stopped performing to pursue her intellectual studies as a psychoanalyst, singing lullabies to the children in her life to her great joy. In 2005, she returned to her love of singing with her partner, Don, in Somers & Steel as well as with StreetHeart, an all female acappella Doowop group, in NJ, where she is StreetHeart's newest member - singing lead and bass. Melodie is also a licensed realtor in NJ.
